Toyota Recall 2009 | Toyota Camry | Prius

Toyota Motor Corporation will recall 3.8 million vehicles in the United States, due to problems with a removable floor mat that could cause accelerators to get stuck and lead to a crash. Toyota spokesman Irv Miller said, "a stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop the vehicle, which could cause a crash, serious injury or death."

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, (NHTSA), said it had received 102 incidents in which the accelerator may have become stuck on the involved Toyota vehicles. The inquiry was prompted by a high speed crash in California of a Toyota Lexus last August.

Transportation secretary Ray LaHood said this is an urgent matter, and for everyone's sake, he strongly urged the owners of these vehicles to remove the mats or other obstacles that could lead to unintended acceleration.

The recall will be Toyota's largest ever recall and will involve popular models like the Toyota Camry, the top selling passenger car in the United States and the Toyota Prius, the best selling hybrid car. The recall will affect the 2007-2010 model of Toyota Camry,2005-2007 Toyota Avalon, 2004-2009 Toyota Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma, 2005-2010 Toyota Tundra, 2007-2010 Lexus ES350 and 2006-2010 Lexus IS250 and Lexus IS350.

In 2005 Toyota recall some 900,000 vehicles because of steering issue.

Toyota advise the owner and drivers of the vehicles to ensure that the mat is properly secured or when the unintended acceleration happens, should step on the accelerator with two feet until the vehicle slows and then try to put in neutral and switch the ignition to accessory power.

For vehicles with engine start/stop buttons, the engine can be shut off by holding the button down for three seconds.

NBA star Delonte West on his Can-Am Spyder arrested

The 26 year old NBA star Delonte West was arrested while travelling in his Can-Am Spyder, a three wheeled motorcycle after a police officer who pulled him to the sidelines on the Beltway found that he was carrying 3 loaded guns! Imagine a well known NBA star of the Cleveland Cavaliers carrying guns; a Beretta 9mm, a Ruger .357 magnum and a shotgun. Why is he armed to the teeth? Is he going to war with whom? Is this a case of paranoia because he was already a basketball star?

Delonte West was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers and help in the campaign of Lebron James to gain the finals but you know what happened, Howard and the Miami Heat beat them to play Kobe Bryant and the LA Lakers in the championships.

Police charged Delonte West with two criminal counts of carrying handguns, the Beretta in his waistband, the Ruger magnum strapped in his legs and issued him a traffic citation for driving "in excess of reasonable and prudent speed". The shotgun he was carrying in his guitar case slung over his back was not included because the police officer said that Delonte West was within his rights to carry shotgun.

Police seized the guns and his Can-Am Spyder motorcycle. He was released from jail on his personal recognizance and will appear on court.

Philippine Navy found oil leak in the sunken Superferry 9

Superferry 9 sunk in the waters off Zamboanga Del Norte. The ship owned by the WG &A shipping company and carrying more 900 passengers and crew tilted and sunk September 6, 2009.
Philippine Navy spokesman Lt. Col. Edgar Arevalo said the oil leak was noticed by navymen aboard a navy patrol gun boat that belongs to the search and rescue operations. Arevalo said the Commander Ramil Enriquez reported the information to his superiors at the Western Mindanao Naval Forces who immediately sent a plane to verify the information regarding the oil leak.

Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo commander of the Philippine Coast Guard said they have already sent experts and equipments to check on the site on the reported oil spill. Tamayo also said that the Superferry 9 was loaded with 180 tons of residual oil, 45 tons of special fuel oil and 35 tons of lube oil. Oil will leaked if the hull is weak and if the hull sustained cracks.

Tamayo also said there appears no indication that the incident was the result of terrorist attack. In 2004, Superferry 14 caught fire in the waters off Manila Bay and with casualty of over 100 dead that was later admitted by the authorities that it was caused by a bomb planted by Abbu Sayaff.

Sony announced a few weeks ago PS firmware 3.0 and now it is already released for download.

The firmware 3.0 includes changes that improve navigation on your Sony PS3. Notice some changes to the design of XMB and the improve look and feel of it. The firmware 3.0 also contains What's New, Status Indicator, Friends List, PlayStation Store Shortcuts, Personalization and Improve Trophies.

What's New section replaces the Information Board which allows the user to enjoy Interactive PlayStation News every time you start the PS3 system.
